1. Overview
Grocery List & Price Compare ("the app") helps you build a personal catalogue of grocery items and shop prices, plan shopping lists, and find the best deals. It is available as an Android app and as a web app on denobyte.com; this policy covers both and points out where they differ. The app does not require creating an account, and we do not operate any servers that store your catalogue or shopping list data. This policy explains what the app does with the data it works with, and what a few third-party services it uses do with it.
2. Data stored on your device
Your catalogues, shopping lists, shops, prices and app settings are stored locally on your device: in the Android app's own storage, or, in the web version, in your browser's storage for this website. The app also keeps automatic local backups on your device so you can undo mistakes. On Android, if Android's own backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include this app's data in that backup, so it can be restored on a new phone; that backup is managed by Android and Google, and we cannot access it. Uninstalling the Android app, or clearing its storage, removes this data from the device. In the web version, clearing this website's data in your browser removes it.
3. Optional Google Drive backup
If you turn on Google Drive sync in Settings, the app asks you to sign in with Google and stores backup files in your own private Google Drive app-data folder — a hidden space only this app can open, not visible among your regular Drive files. The app keeps the 10 most recent backups there and deletes older ones automatically. We cannot see or access these files; they stay between your device and your own Google account. Signing in uses Google Sign-In, which is covered by Google's own privacy policy.
4. Sharing a catalogue
The Share option in the app's Menu hands a catalogue file to your device's normal share sheet (e.g. email or a messaging app), or downloads it, at your choice. The app itself never sends this file anywhere on its own.
5. Advertising
The web version of the app shows no ads. The Android app shows ads through Google AdMob to help keep the app free. Where required (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), the Android app asks for your consent with Google's consent form before any ad is shown, and you can change your choice at any time under Settings › General › Privacy choices. To show, personalise and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google and its advertising partners may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, your IP address and the approximate location derived from it, app interaction data, and diagnostic information; if you do not consent to personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised ones. The app never passes your catalogues, shopping lists or prices to advertisers. This processing is governed by Google's own policies: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and policies.google.com/privacy. Other pages of the denobyte.com website may show Google AdSense ads; those are covered by the website's general Privacy Policy.
6. Other services the app uses
Printing and exporting a shopping list as a PDF happens on your device, using your device's or browser's own printing and file tools. In the Android app, in-app review prompts use Google Play's built-in review flow. To run in your browser, the web version loads its display engine and fonts from Google's servers (gstatic.com), and the website is hosted by Vercel; like with any website, these services receive standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type when the app loads. The app itself does not include any separate analytics or crash-reporting services. In the Android app, the Google AdMob SDK described under Advertising may collect diagnostic and performance data for its own analytics and fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Data retention and deletion
Since your data lives on your device, uninstalling the Android app or clearing its storage deletes it; in the web version, clearing this website's data in your browser does the same. If you use Google Drive sync, you can delete the backups at any time: on drive.google.com, open Settings → Manage apps, choose Options for this app and delete its hidden app data. Turning sync off in Settings stops new backups but does not delete existing ones.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised; continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
