The upgrade from being just a married couple to a family 7 months ago brought many challenges. One of them was also of a financial nature, having to provide the usual items for the baby. The monthly bills almost doubled, plus my sanity was under additional stress due to all the possible diaper prices, offers and almost half-a-dozen different package sizes for the same diaper brand, type and size. Not to mention that diapers are only a small part of everything when a baby is born.

Here is the current situation for somebody who wants to buy Pampers - Baby Dry (size 4), checking at preisrunter.at:

Wow, "just" 47 results found. Packs from 24, 25, 27, 30, 56, 62, 66, 72, 108, 180, 198, 204 ... and now, who would want to go through all of those calculations like every 1, 2, 3 weeks, trying to get the best deal? I tried, and got a few additional gray hairs.

But then, the Grocery Shopping List Price Optimizer came to the rescue.

Let's see how much one would pay for diapers, for 6 months (taking size 4 as a reference - 9-14kg baby), if one was going only to SPAR and blindly buying them there, not taking any regard to the price, and not wanting to go buy them every week.

Currently there is this SPAR offer for a 62-piece pack, which might last just a bit below 2 weeks.

So that is 0.29€ per diaper. The baby needs about 4 diaper changes per day (it varies between 3 and 5), so for 6 months that would add up to 720 diapers.

Buying 17.99€/62 pack -> 0.29€ per diaper * 720 -> 208.8€. That's for 6 months of diapers.

To explain, a few months ago I've noticed that BIPA has quite regular discounts on those diapers. So when they occur, I stock up sufficiently. Now check the result.

You already get the picture, but let's make a final comparison for 6 months of diapers we just did:

That is more than enough money for me and my wife to order a 4-person order (if we're super hungry) of a premium sushi home delivery 🍣, and we would still be left with about 10€.

2. Frosch Baby Waschmittel 🧺

While going past it in the SPAR 2 days ago, I noticed there was a new price in place. Currently sitting at 7.39€/1.5L.

Checking at heisse-preise.io, the price did increase from 6.99€ to 7.39€, so +0.4€ which is a 5.72% increase in price. I guess the increase in the gas prices lately has it's impact.

Good thing (for me) is, that per my entry in Grocery Shopping List Price Optimizer, it doesn't affect me, as I'm buying it on Amazon.de at the right moment.

At the start of June, there was a superb discount on that item when buying more.

You see that here? 3.99€ per 1.5L bottle. Now, let's compare that with SPAR's current 7.39€ for buying the same amount of bottles (10).

• SPAR: 73.90€
• Amazon.de (with help of the Grocery Shopping List Price Optimizer app): 39.90€

So, not only did I buy the item at a significantly reduced price, I'm also basically covered for at least 1 year by it, and I don't have to worry about it anymore. That should cover a regular 2-person premium sushi home delivery order for me and my wife 🍣.

Now that's the stuff, improving the state of my life, brain, and wallet. Well, and my wife's sushi-desire-meter, keeping it sufficiently low 😄.
